Wall Bracing and Tie-Down Structural Design

Wind loads on a house are typically transferred through ceiling diaphragms and resisted by bracing installed on walls. Sheets of plywood, metal straps, or proprietary fabricated metal braces are used in both timber and steel framed construction. Tie down of roof, wall and floor framing is then installed throughout the frame, using metal rods, metal straps, screws, or proprietary brackets. These vary depending on the wind classification for the site.
